Re: Best books on nomography ?

The Douglas P. Adams book "Nomography Theory and Application" has become expensive in the used books aftermarket. However, I found a web site that allows you to download it in pdf format for free. That link is: http://www.addebook.com/tech2/mathematics/nomography-theory-and-application_540...

Re: Trouble finding an algorithm

Hi Glen, I published an algorithm with working C code back in 1986, implementing a Variable Metric Minimizer. Here are the bibliographic details: --------------------------------------------------- A Variable Metric Minimizer CONTRIBUTORS: Author: Marasco, Joe (b. 1945, d. ----) JOURNAL: Dr. Dobb's ...

Recent publication on medical nomography

I have recently published an article in Seminars in Oncology with Dr. Michael Kattan of the Cleveland Clinic.

The link is: http://www.seminoncol.org/article/S0093-7754(09)00228-0/abstract.

I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks.

Re: PyNomo 0.2.2 release

I have been using this latest release and it is a joy! The improvements make a big difference, and, as always, Leif has been extremely responsive to questions. If you are on an older release, I would highly recommend that you upgrade. I made the switch on Windows 7 (from an older release on Vista) a...

Re: Free Online Texts on Nomography

Here is another way to obtain d'Ocagne's classic work: http://www.alibris.com/booksearch.detail?invid=9769660131&wquery=ocagne&qwork=-54369880&qsort=&page=1 I recently purchased this for $19.19 (don’t ask me how!) and it came today. I can verify that it is a faithful reproduction of ...

Can you give us a pointer to what's new in this release?

Thanks.

Nomography and weather forecasting

I have stumbled across a very interesting applicaton of nomography. See: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~nwsfo/storage/trend/index.html#nomogram This may not fit the exact definition of a nomograph, but I found the web site to be a fascinating example of applying mathematical modeling to a very specific, real...

Block 10 question

I have been successful using Block 10, which turns out to be very, very useful because we often have "cross terms" in simple relationships. However, I have one small question. When the nomograph is plotted, u always comes out on the left, and v on the right. Is there a simple way to revers...

Re: Best books on nomography ?

With respect to item 6 in the previous post, please note that there is a second edition of Levens' book, variously given as 1959 or 1965, which has 296 pages. I have ordered a copy and will report on the differences between the two editions once I get a chance to compare them.

Thanks.

Re: Best books on nomography ?

The following books are listed in no particular order. They have been accumulated over the years and are my “hard copy” library on the subject. 1. d’Ocagne, Maurice: Traité de Nomographie, Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1899; 480 pages The classic work, in French, by the inventor of the method. Comprehens...

Re: PyNomo 0.2.0b0 released

I have downloaded and installed this release on Windows running Vista. The system works admirably well. I was able to recreate a hand-crafted nomograph of my own in about 30 minutes once the release and all its prerequisites were installed. This is an excellent piece of software. I have only begun t...

Re: Using PyNomo

I have just completed a new nomograph (see http://www.barbecuejoe.com/scan.htm) and will now test PyNomo by attempting to replicate it programatically. This may take awhile as I have to first download Python and learn how to use it. However, I am looking forward to the experiment. The new nomograph ...
