Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Many thanks for your explanation and references Glen It sounds like you are a lot further down the road to mastering this nomogram lark than I am! I'm really impressed by your math skills and ability to visualise the required solution. I've successfully drafted various types of compound nomograms us...

Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Hi Glen Many thanks for your post I haven't tried to get into curved scale nomograms yet, but this sounds a really elegant solution to my problem; and would look way cooler than grids or contours... How on earth did you work that out ?! Please could you recommend a good reference or two to get me st...

Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

BTW in Douglass' preface to "Elements of Nomography" he rants a bit about empirical methods of construction being inferior to algebraic methods; however in the footnote, he states that " it is often possible to put a network chart in a form such that an alignment diagram can be made f...

Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Your contour nomogram is really elegant Ron. Thanks again for this. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if is it possible to express the relationship of a 4-variable equation as a grid or contour nomogram, does it follow that therefore there also exists a nomogram (or "family" of anamorp...

Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Dear both Apologies for the delay in posting - my day job has been taking up all of my waking hours this week, and then some... Many thanks for your help & expertise Greatly appreciated - especially all the time you've put into working up the formula into a useable nomogram Ron... For what it's ...

Re: Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Sorry - just to clarify, the first equation should be:

t = (u*v/w) * (1 - ((w - u)/2))

Req: Can this eqn be expressed in Std Nomo Form?

Hi folks! I'm struggling to convert the following 4-variable equation into 2 equations in standard determinant form so that I can make a compound or grid nomogram. Despite working through my high school maths books, looking for other similar examples in nomography text books, and trying to solve the...

Re: Duodecimal tickmarks?

Thanks both - glad to be able to help. The way in which PyNomo reads instructions for tick mark style and length from a list is very intuitive for a human user. However it might be difficult to adapt my routine to interface easily with this, as my routine is designed to be embedded within the main l...

Re: Duodecimal tickmarks?

Sorry; the formatting was lost when I cut and pasted the above examples from my Python editor to the discussion board.

The last two lines of code in each example (beginning "print..." and "x+=1") should both be indented 1 tab stop, otherwise the routines won't run.

Cheers

Re: Duodecimal tickmarks?

Hi Jason / Hi Leif I've been trying to find a solution for a similar problem this last few weeks. I've been trying to write a Python routine which automatically generates tick marks of appropriate length to divide Hours into 5 minute intervals over any given user-definable range. I eventually came u...
